One quote from a racegoer summed up Ladies Day at the 2024 Grand National perfectly.
Thousands head to the event every year looking their best. Ranelagh Street was bustling with Aintree spectators as they headed to Liverpool Central station to catch the train to Aintree.
Once again the weather stayed clear for those heading to the festival from across Liverpool and the country. Jordan, Blossom and Ainishia had travelled all the way from Saltbridge in Yorkshire to tick off a ‘bucket list’ event.

Blossom said: “I’m just happy spending time with my friends. It’s something to celebrate. We never get dressed up. It’s fantastic. It's a good excuse to get dressed up.”
Xam and Kimberly were also first time attendees and had come from Birmingham. When asked why they decided to go to Ladies Day, Xam said: “Just for the fun of it. That’s what it’s about. Everyone’s looking good. Everyone's feeling happy.
Kimberly: “The atmosphere in Liverpool is always great. If we win, that’s a bonus.”
For others, Aintree is a family tradition. For Brian and John McManus, the Grand National acts as a unique family reunion. They both grew up in Dingle but now live in West Derby and Surrey respectively.
Brian said: “Our eldest brother lives in north wales. He organises it. He’s got three lads they come over. Then you've got friends and sometimes other nephews who come.”
When asked what makes Aintree so special to them, he added: “It’s our home course for a start. It’s a wonderful event and a great day out. We plan throughout the year for it. Obviously when we're finished at Aintree we come back into Liverpool and go to
