Lawrence Shankland is 'WORST' Hearts finisher in training as striker shifts target with goal haul rising

Lawrence Shankland reckons he can smash the 30 goal barrier for Hearts and Scotland this season - even if he's one of the WORST finishers in training.

The Premiership's top scorer add another double to his overall tally, scoring the opener and final goal in the Jambos' 4-1 Scottish Cup fifth round win at Airdrie. That sets up a quarter-final date with Morton and gives Steven Naismith's side a real shot and making it to Hampden for the second time this season.

Shankland is in the form of his life with an incredible 12 goals in his last 11 games. This time last year, he became the first hearts striker in more than two decades to hit 20 goals in a season since John Robertson in 1991/92. He's already done that this campaign and is on course to broke records in Gorgie. But Shankland admits he couldn't hit a barn door in training, and insists his teammates will back him up on that.

"We always do finishing most weeks," he told BBC Scotland. "Obviously I'm quite a natural finisher, I;ve had that throughout my career. But we do work on it quite a lot.

"To be honest, I'm probably one of the worst in training most weeks! The boys will tell you that. It seems to be my worst day before a game.

"We obviously practice, but right now it seems like I'm getting all the misses out the way. They keep going in in the games, so I'll take it!

Asked if he'd set himself a target for the season, Shankland replied: "I have, obviously. I've passed the 20 mark now so I think I just need to get up to the 30 mark and have a look at that. What am I at now? 25 if I include my Scotland goal? We're including that!

"So 30 plus is the target. The most I've had is 28 or 29. It's definitely beatable so hopefully I get there.
