Liverpool have moved a step closer to opening its expanded Anfield Road stand, after it was revealed there will be a phased opening once a security certificate is granted as construction continues.
The project has proven to be a rather rocky ride for the Reds so far, after it was stung by yet another delay last month. It had already been delayed after their previous contractors, the Buckingham Group, filed for administration.
Originally scheduled to be ready in time for the start of the 2023/24 season, and then the October international break, work will now not be completed until 2024, with the Reds continuing to play in front of reduced 51,000 crowds, with a closed upper tier in the Anfield Road stand, for the rest of the calendar year at least.

But with new contractors, Rayner Rowen Construction, continuing the works, the club have at least been able to reach the latest landmark in the redevelopment with the full installation of the seats in the upper tier of the Anfield Road stand, along with a first look at the extended general concourse.
Work will continue at Anfield with a number of requirements still to be met, including the health and safety regulations laid out by Liverpool City Council, plus test events. And while the end is not yet in sight, with the redevelopment a far from straightforward process, the latest update showing recent progress along with news of a phased opening is at least a step in the right direction as Liverpool look to finally obtain something they have been craving for two decades - a 60,000 seater stadium.
