Liverpool Under-21s clinched their third-successive win as goals from Trey Nyoni and Kaide Gordon saw them run out 2-1 winners away at Newcastle United on Saturday.
The young Reds took the lead after just three minutes as the in-form Jayden Danns won possession with a high press. Feeding Nyoni, the 16-year-old finished smartly as he opened the scoring with his first goal in Premier League 2.
Gordon would then double the lead from the penalty spot midway through the first half after Danns was brought down in the box. The strike would be the winger’s first since returning from long-term injury in September following 19 months on the sidelines, with his last goal coming 25 months ago against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup in January 2022.

Liverpool handed huge boost by two timely returns as injury list grows to 10
Yet having made two appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s first team this season, and been included in a further five matchday squads, the senior Reds’ latest injury blows to Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez could potentially see Gordon handed another temporary promotion with Luton Town visiting Anfield on Wednesday night and the League Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley looming next weekend.
Ben Parkinson pulled a goal back a minute later for the hosts, but Liverpool held on to claim all three points.
And while Danns was unable to get on the scoresheet himself, his latest assist leaves him with 21 goals and seven assists from 22 games at Academy level. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old has returned two goals and two assists from four PL2 appearances since stepping up to Barry Lewtas’ side at the turn of the year.
