Liverpool have been told why they would prefer Mohamed Salah to be the one leaving the club than Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season after announcing he would be stepping down from his role as manager. The 56-year-old has been in charge since October 2015 and added another trophy to his collection with victory in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
The Reds recorded a 1-0 win over Chelsea after extra time at Wembley Stadium to win a record 10th League Cup in the club's history, and a second during Klopp's tenure. Virgil van Dijk scored the winning goal in the 118th minute of the contest.
Salah was not involved in the game as he was recovering from a fitness issue. The forward is contracted to Liverpool until 2025, and there is growing speculation about Salah's long-term future at Anfield following Klopp's announcement.
Merson has explained why he believes, if given the choice, Liverpool would rather Klopp remain at the club than Salah. The former Arsenal star has said the Carabao Cup final win was further evidence of the impact Klopp has made at Anfield.
