Bayern Munich have reportedly circled Xabi Alonso as their top managerial target should they decide to sack current boss Thomas Tuchel, putting Liverpool on red alert.
Alonso is the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer, although the Spaniard may have other options on the table amid his success with Bayer Leverkusen. Tuchel is under pressure in Bavaria amid an underwhelming season and risks being the first Bayern manager to miss out on the Bundesliga title in 12 years.
Bayern sit eight points behind Leverkusen in the table and lost the first leg of their last-16 Champions League clash with Lazio 1-0 last week. This weekend’s 3-2 defeat to VfL Bochum has cranked up the heat on the German following the 3-0 loss to Leverkusen earlier this month.

The Athletic reports that Bayern have now put former midfielder Alonso top of their shortlist of potential replacements should Tuchel be shown the door, albeit at this stage an approach would only come forth in the summer.
It is thought that should Bayern call for an immediate change in the dugout, they will look for a caretaker until the end of the season. That would take the pressure off Liverpool to speed up their recruitment process ahead of time, although they will be aware of the potential of a pre-appointment agreement.
The Reds are expected to approach Alonso in their search for Klopp’s replacement given his terrific 16-month spell at Leverkusen, during which he has taken the club from relegation contenders to title favourites.
