Zlatan Ibrahimovic has landed his first role since retiring from football after joining Liverpool investors RedBird Capital Partners in an advisory capacity.
Ibrahimovic, 42, called time at the end of last season on a glittering career that took in spells with the likes of AC Milan, Ajax, Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, where he carved out a legacy as one of the greatest players European football has ever seen.
He called it a day earlier this year after finishing his career with AC Milan, and he has now moved into a role behind the scenes with the Rossoneri, a club owned by RedBird, the Gerry Cardinale-led firm that acquired 11% of Reds owners Fenway Sports Group back in March 2021 for a $750m sum.

Ibrahimovic will become an operating partner at RedBird, collaborating with the firm’s global investment team in supporting its existing investment portfolio across sports, media and entertainment. He will help source and evaluate new investment opportunities for the firm, and will advise RedBird portfolio companies on commercial projects, digital content strategies and strategic brand building initiatives to extend their presence on a global basis.
At AC Milan, Ibrahimovic will serve as a senior advisor to the ownership, which is led by RedBird and includes the New York Yankees, one of RedBird’s longest standing partners in sports, with whom AC Milan have a commercial relationship through merchandise being sold at each others venues.
