Liverpool 'target' Aaron Ramsdale replacement to scupper Edu's Arsenal masterplan

Arsenal will encounter competition from Premier League title rivals Liverpool to sign Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal this summer — according to reports — amid mounting speculation over the goalkeeper.

Jorgensen, 21, has caught the eye with his development in La Liga and is highly-rated across Europe. Mikel Arteta and Arsenal made a huge decision between the posts this summer by signing David Raya — initially on loan — from Brentford to replace Aaron Ramsdale as first-choice goalkeeper. Arsenal have an option to make Raya a permanent member of their squad when the market reopens.

As such, that leaves Ramsdale at a cross-roads and the club are claimed to be keeping their eye out for a potential replacements. Reports from Caught Offside flag up Jorgensen as a preferred target for Arsenal, but that move has a possible stumbling block with Liverpool also thought to be keeping tabs on the Denmark U21 international.

Jorgensen has totted-up 29 games for Villarreal in all competitions this season with four clean sheets.

According to the article, Jorgensen would initially be brought in as back-up for Raya or Alisson — depending where he ends up — with a view to him competing for the No.1 spot in time.

Arsenal still need to decide whether or not to take up their option on Raya, who would cost the club a further £27million in addition his £3million loan fee.

No figure has been mentioned when it comes to Jorgensen. However, with the youngster under contract with the Spanish outfit until 2027, Villarreal do have some bargaining power to spark-up a bidding war.
