L’Équipe report this afternoon that Lyon are closing in on the signing of Georgian international Saba Sazonov from Dynamo Moscow, having already agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old.
The Saint Petersburg-born defender, who made 33 appearances in all competitions last year, has one year left on his contract with the Russian side, who have set their asking price at between €3m and €4m.
Sazonov, who will potentially be signing a five-year contract with Les Gones, could find himself thrown straight into Laurent Blanc’s first-team plans this upcoming season as a result of Sinaly Diomandé’s potential departure to Salzburg.
The club’s initial idea was to loan him out to Belgium’s Molenbeek, who are also presided over by John Textor’s Eagle Football. The transfer restrictions imposed on Lyon by the DNCG this summer could also prove an obstacle to signing Sazonov. The fact that the French football financial watchdog is monitoring their business has also seen the club opt to hold on to Castello Lukeba, despite offers from Leipzig.
