After an inspired performance for Olympique Lyonnais in their Coupe de France victory over LOSC Lille (2-1) on Wednesday night, Rayan Cherki (20) has been brought back down to earth by coach Pierre Sage.
Speaking post-match, Les Gones manager Sage didn’t get too carried away with Cherki’s starring role in the cup victory, which secured a quarter-final encounter against RC Strasbourg Alsace.
” I have to manage him as an individual case, sometimes with honesty, sometimes with tolerance and patience. In terms of of our relationship, we have drifted apart a little for one game, but now it’s a little better, except when I take him off. However, sometimes better is the enemy of good and it’s better if I stop there.”
France youth international Cherki’s goal against Lille was just his second of the season for Sage’s under-pressure Lyon side, but it’s worth noting that it’s also his second goal of the calendar year.
