It is a crisis averted at PSG. The controversial substitution of Kylian Mbappé at half-time at AS Monaco had the potential to throw Les Parisiens’ season off the rails just days before a Champions League second-leg against Real Sociedad. “Constructive ” talks took place the day after that 0-0 draw against Les Monégasques and Mbappé then started against Real Sociedad on Tuesday. Luís Enrique’s decision was immediately validated, with the France captain running the show from the first minute, netting a brace and securing a comfortable qualification. Post-match, all parties eased the tensions. Mbappé and Luís Enrique categorically stated there was “no problem”, whilst president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who according to reports that he feels “betrayed” by Mbappé’s decision to leave the club, called the Frenchman “the best player in the world”. With the tensions eased, can PSG now get their first win in three after successive draws against Rennes and Monaco.
Les Parisiens have previously struggled against Reims and it was only thanks to an incredible individual performance from Gianluigi Donnarumma that they got over the line earlier this season.
