According to Foot Mercato , the LFP and McDonald’s have come to a verbal agreement for the Ligue 1 naming rights.
In an agreement that will see McDonald’s pay €30 million per year, the French top flight will be rebranded from Ligue 1 Uber Eats to Ligue 1 McDonald’s at the start of next season. This agreement will end a four-year relationship with the food delivery service after the company failed to match the offer from the American fast food giants.
Uber Eats were reportedly keen on lowering their valuation from around 15 to 16 million euros per year, a devastating piece of news at the time for a league that has been struggling to bring in outside revenue, after multiple setbacks in attempting to sell both their domestic and international television packages.
Despite, the obvious boon that McDonald’s finances will bring in for French clubs there are some questions that the prestige of the competition may be reduced somewhat from an association with the fast food company. A question that was also raised when Uber Eats first became part of the league’s branding.
