The wives and girlfriends of England's soccer stars will fly out to Germany
England's WAGs are set to snub the Football Association by arranging their own private security this summer, splashing out as much as $126,000 during the summer tournament.
The group — led by tournament veterans Fern Maguire and Megan Pickford — intend to share the cost. Their partners, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, have been part of the national team for four major tournaments and they are intending to do things their own way.
Bukayo Saka's partner Tolami Benson and Sasha Atwood — girlfriend of Manchester City's Jack Grealish — are also on board with the plan. The players' partners want to bring in their own security team after finding the FA's hired protection to be too strict at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
According to The Sun on Sunday, ex-military specialists will be hired to guard them while they enjoy their trip to Germany, where the tournament will be held from June 14 to July 14.
It comes after the German government shared their concerns about the threat of a terror attack putting fans' safety at risk, following a recent attack in Moscow, Russia that killed 137 people.
«The FA security team looked after them at the World Cup in Qatar but this time they want to ramp up the security around them,» a source told the newspaper.
«They are looking to hire ex-military trained to deal with all sorts of threats. They'll operate from a discreet distance so the group don't draw too much attention. It means they can enjoy more freedom and feel safer at the same time.»
