Manchester City have issued a defiant statement in response to the looming 115 charges the Premier League alleges they have committed. The Citizens have been accused of illicit financing and un-cooperation between 2009 and 2018, after the initial allegation was brought to the fore in 2023.
After recent sanctions for Everton and Nottingham Forest, Financial Fair Play and the English top-flight's Profit and Sustainability have been thrust under the spotlight. Both of the Premier League strugglers have been docked points in recent months, with Sean Dyche's side learning the verdict of a second independent review of their latest breach this week.
Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are among the clubs that have been forced to tighten their belts amid the fear of crossing the line, thus facing a sanction from the governing body. Premier League clubs are currently allowed to lose £105million over a three-year period. However, the Toffees have once again gone beyond that threshold.
After filing their financial accounts last week, City reiterated their complete denial stance by referencing part of their initial statement in a Companies House report.
«On 6 February 2023, in accordance with Premier League Rule W.21.1, the Premier League referred a number of alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules by Manchester City Football Club to a Commission under Premier League Rule W3.4.
“In February 2023, in response to the charges, the cub issued a public statement that it welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.”
