The Premier League is currently the most lucrative league in world football - with some of England’s top spenders splashing around £6.5billion between them.
UEFA have recently compiled a list of some of the most expensive squads currently taking to the pitch across Europe. Unsurprisingly, the Premier League dominates the top 20 at the end of the 2023 financial year.
Manchester United sit at the top of the list after years of heavy spending. The Red Devils’ squad is currently worth around £1.21bn, although that has not done them many favours with Erik ten Hag’s side battling to secure a place in Europe come the end of the campaign.
Cross-city rivals Manchester City sit second in the list. Their squad is apparently worth £1.1bn. Pep Guardiola’s side have earned plenty of benefits from those loose purse strings after lifting the historic treble last term.
Chelsea round off a Premier League top three with a squad value of £927m. The Blues have spent heavily following the arrival of Todd Boehly at Stamford Bridge with lucrative deals for Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk right at the top of the list.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain complete the top five. The pair can boast squad values of £882m and £802m respectively. Premier League clubs then re-enter the list. Current title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal claim sixth and seventh spot in UEFA’s list.
Liverpool have splashed the cash during Jurgen Klopp’s period at Anfield including on current record signing Darwin Nunez, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker. Elsewhere, Mikel Arteta has been given plenty of freedom in the transfer market at Arsenal and sealed a £105m deal for Declan Rice in the summer.
Juventus are then next in the list with a squad value of £658m,
