Manchester City show they can win without being at their best

Manchester City are the only remaining team in the Premier League who have won all of their domestic matches so far this season.

Sheffield United played host to the champions on Sunday afternoon, yet Pep Guardiola's charges showed they could win without ever really getting beyond 25% of their capabilities.

With a number of key players having left the club this summer, Pep Guardiola has done his best to convince the public that Manchester City's squad has been left immeasurably weaker.

However, three weeks into the season any such notions can be put to bed. Despite a valiant effort from the Blades, it always felt like the visitors were toying with them, keeping them at a safe distance.

It wasn't the most sparkling attacking performance from the Blues, despite their comfort, and this was epitomized by Erling Haaland missing a rare spot-kick.

In the 37th minute of the match, Julian Alvarez fired in a cross which struck a defender on the air and the referee quickly pointed to the spot.

The Norwegian hitman stepped up but his penalty rattled against the post, ensuring the two teams went into the half-time break level at 0-0.

It was, however, Haaland who opened the scoring after an hour, courtesy of a fine piece of assisting from Jack Grealish.

The English midfielder sent a perfect cross into the box where Haaland was on-hand at the back-post to nod home.

In the 71st minute Haaland found the net again, latching onto an Alvarez through ball, but the offside flag was raised.
