Manchester United handed double injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United will be without defenders Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez for Sunday's Premier League clash against Liverpool.

Lindelof was substituted in the second half of United's 1-1 draw with Brentford last Saturday after suffering a hamstring injury. As his replacement in West London, Martinez played the final 21 minutes but has succumbed to a calf injury in training since.

United are hopeful that both players will return to action before the end of the campaign but have confirmed that they will be sidelined for the next month at least, ruling them out of Sunday's huge Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp's side make the short journey down East Lancs Road looking to extend their lead over Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League but also with the hope of avenging their gut-wrenching FA Cup quarter-final defeat to the Red Devils three weeks ago.

The Reds, though, will also be without several of their key players as long-term absentees Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota are yet to return to training. However, Curtis Jones could play some part at Old Trafford after returning to full training last Friday and he is expected to feature in Thursday's game against Sheffield United.

Jones has not played for the Reds since the 4-1 victory at Brentford nearly two months ago and missed February's League Cup final victory over Chelsea at Wembley as a result of an ankle injury picked up at the G Tech Community Stadium.
