Manchester United could be without Argentina centre-back Lisandro Martinez for the impending Premier League showdown against Tottenham.
Martinez, who has been a stand-out performer at Old Trafford and beyond since his high-profile transfer from Ajax last summer, suffered a knock to his ankle during their 1-0 victory over Wolves on Monday night. United were quite fortunate to win that game; one that was shrouded in VAR controversy.
Wolves carved out several decent chances before Raphael Varane settled the scores for United with a late header. The Midlands side were also denied what appeared to be a clear penalty late in the game.
The decision not to award them a spot-kick led to an apology from PGMOL - directly to manager Gary O'Neil - and referee Simon Hooper has been stood down from Premier League duty this forthcoming matchday. His VAR on the night, Michael Salisbury, and AVAR Richard West have also been handed the same fate.
Before that flashpoint, Martinez had been given the run around by Wolves in the opening 45 minutes, picking up a booking before he was subsequently replaced at half-time.
