There have been a few key words and terms Mauricio Pochettino has often referred to since taking over as Chelsea head coach last summer.
'Circumstances' is one, with the Blues plagued by injury problems this term. Another is 'project', with the club currently at the beginning of a long-term vision as Pochettino pleads for time. Another is 'consistency'. Or lack thereof.
Chelsea's longest unbeaten streak this season, when accounting games in all competitions, was back in September heading into October, where they went four matches without defeat. Three successive wins, something the Blues have managed just twice this season, came against Brighton, Fulham and Burnley before drawing with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on October 21.
Every time Chelsea look as if there is some momentum coming their way, it disappears. To use the old cliche, it has often been 'one step forward and two steps back' for Pochettino.
«We had some good performances but were not consistent enough,» Pochettino said after Chelsea's win against Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round last month. «Now it is an opportunity to show more of these types of performances.
»We believe it's the time to be consistent. I think the players deserve because they are working really hard from the beginning of the season."

That, though, is nothing new at Chelsea and it was the downfall of former head coach Graham Potter. It also played a big part in Thomas Tuchel's time with the Blues, although his departure from the club was thought to be more because he did not share the same plans as the new ownership.
