Chelsea transfer news - Mauricio Pochettino has given an update on the future of defender Trevoh Chalobah amidst links with a move away from the club.
Coming through the youth ranks, Chalobah spent time on loan with Championship outfits Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town in the formative years of his career, often playing in midfield. It would be a later loan to French side Lorient that would shape the player he is now, fitting in as a centre-back in a back three for them.
A return to west London saw him utilised by Thomas Tuchel in pre-season and the UEFA Super Cup, where he proved to be a very useful player. While a regular starting place wasn't guaranteed, Chalobah was reliable when called upon and continued to fight for his spot.
Tuchel looked for a reunion at Bayern Munich, while Nottingham Forest made a late bid to land the defender, but neither were successful in their attempts. With game time limited, football.london reported last week that Chalobah is still facing an exit and may well have played his last game for the club.
It was something brought up to Pochettino in his pre-Bournemouth press conference, where he appeared to make a u-turn on that stance. He told reporters: "Of course [Chalobah's still part of his plans]. I am Chelsea, I am the coach and his future is going to be involved in the season is Chalobah. He is in our plans. No one is going to decide for me."
Actions will certainly speak louder than words and it remains to be seen whether Chalobah's game time will reflect that of a player in the plans of the head coach.
