Chelsea have released their injury list ahead of their EFL Cup clash with Brighton on Wednesday night, with fewer names now out of action. Only eight players featured in the latest update from the club, with two of those nearing a return, while the other six are set for longer on the sidelines.
Mauricio Pochettino has been impacted heavily by injuries in recent weeks, with as many as 12 players out injured at any given time. It has coincided with the Blues picking up just one win in the Premier League so far this season, getting off to a slower start than desired.
The latest blow came in a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, where an Ollie Watkins finish proved to be the deciding factor. There was a slight boost to the ranks though, asArmando Broja finally stepped foot on the pitch again after a serious knee injury suffered against the same opponents in a friendly late last year.
Heading into the Brighton clash, Pochettino will be hopeful that his side can progress to the next round of the EFL Cup, having already stated his desire to win it this season. Any victory could also provide a foundation from which his team can work from, giving them plenty of confidence.
Ahead of the game, Chelsea posted an injury update stating eight players will be missing the game through injury concerns. Marcus Bettinelli, Reece James, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah are all claimed to be going through their rehabilitation.
