Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes the Premier League debuts of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai offer his old side encouragement for the season ahead, naming the latter as the 'unsung hero' of the 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
Both midfielders were thrown in at the deep end by Jurgen Klopp - the argentine in a reserved No.6 role after signing from Brighton for £35m and the Hungarian in a variety of positions throughout the 90 minutes, having joined from RB Leipzig for £60m in July.
There was added pressure on the season-opener given the two club's ongoing transfer scrap, but the Reds remained fully focused to take the lead in the 18th minute and edge their opponents in terms of opportunities, despite being denied a winner.
Both of the new arrivals played their part in the slick build-up to Luis Diaz's goal, something Owen was quick to highlight when speaking to Premier League productions shortly after full-time.

"A little unsung hero there - Szoboszlai's pass,’ said the 43-year-old. “He was under pressure and he is coming to the ball. A little lay-off, it’s a dangerous area of the pitch in the centre and he lays it off beautifully. It was a lovely team goal.
"The two players that did play – Szoboszlai and Mac Allister - it was encouraging. This is a tough place to go. Don’t be fooled by them coming 12th in the league last season. This is a very, very tough place to go. New manager and new excitement around the place."
Revisiting Diaz, the former Liverpool man also waxed lyrical about the Colombian's mindset to have such a positive impact
