Mikel Arteta gives honest verdict on Everton 'tough times' after takeover confirmation
Mikel Arteta admits there are exciting times ahead for Everton but how they overcome their difficult circumstances will spark improvement.
The Spanish midfielder made 209 appearances during his career at Goodison Park, after arriving from La Liga side Real Sociedad. In recent years, Arteta has been in the opposition dressing room - more recently, in the opposing dugout with Manchester City before taking the leap to first-team football with Arsenal.
Everton have struggled in recent seasons and narrowly avoided relegation in successive campaigns under Frank Lampard before Sean Dyche subsequently picked up the pieces and beat the drop.

Arteta believes that with the project, including the Bramley Moore Dock development, there are exciting times ahead for the Blues and overcoming their tough circumstances will better the club.
"That’s the history of football clubs and the challenges that we all have right now is the competition," he told reporters, discussing the current situation at his former club. "The project that they have there with the new stadium and everything that they are trying to do is very exciting as well. But, like everybody, you have tough times. It’s how you overcome those situations to become better.
