Emmanuel Petit has told Mikel Arteta he should not sign Newcastle's Alexander Isak after he was compared to Thierry Henry - he should snap up Nico Williams instead.
Sweden international Isak is in his second season of Premier League football with the 24-year-old continuing to grow his reputation at St James' Park. Isak has produced 15 goals in 23 league appearances this term and 29 goals in all following his club-record £63million transfer.
Eddie Howe compared his forward to Henry after a stunning dribble versus Everton last term, while Arsenal have been linked with a move for the forward. The Magpies coach has declared Isak as not for sale, but the former Real Sociedad forward did not rule out the possibility.
A £100m fee has been touted with both Arsenal and Spurs linked to the forward. However, former Gunners midfielder Petit believes Arteta and co. should stay well clear.
He told Genting Casino: "£100m for Alexander Isak? Come on... Spending that amount of money on someone like Declan Rice is understandable because it's guaranteed Rice was going to do well and put in the effort. I'm not so sure about Isak.
"I don't think it would be a good decision by Arsenal to buy Isak for a big price. Arsenal's transfer policy is very good, and they should keep their policy rather than fund clubs like Chelsea, Newcastle or those kinds of clubs.
"Arsenal shouldn't splash their money like that. Isak would be a good addition to the squad, but there are players outside of England that could have the same impact."
Instead, the former France international believes that Arsenal should look towards La Liga. Petit has earmarked Athletic Bilbao forward Williams as the ideal summer transfer target.
