Morgan Sanson (29) is in contention to face Montpellier HSC on Friday after returning to first-team training for OGC Nice on Wednesday.
The Frenchman, currently on loan at Nice from Aston Villa, has been out for a fortnight with a knee injury. Les Aiglons have not won in his absence. Nice are without a win in their last five and have lost three out of their last four. Without Sanson, Le Gym have lost against Toulouse FC and drawn against Clermont Foot.
With Nice slipping from second to fifth during this recent barren run, the club desperately need to bounce back against Montpellier on Friday and they will once again be able to count on Sanson. “He trained with the team today,” said Francesco Farioli at Wednesday’s pre-match press conference.
The Italian, who dismissed notions of a crisis at Nice, but did nonetheless call for his team to “wake up” in the wake of their latest defeat, added, “Tomorrow (Thursday), he will have his first full training session. He won’t be in the starting XI but he will be in the squad.”
Whilst Sanson returns, Nice will still be without Valentin Rosier, who misses out with a hamstring injury, and Sofiane Diop, who is still recovering from a foot injury.
