Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur has provided some insight into his recovery from a broken toe picked up in March. The Uruguay international has been hampered significantly by injuries in the last 18 months with an ankle problem coming just weeks after he had recovered from serious knee injury.
Despite returning at the end of December, two months ahead of Ange Postecoglou's estimated return date, Bentancur has struggled to rediscover his best form. Given the severe injuries he has faced, it is hardly surprising and his latest issue may also explain why he has played just 66 minutes in the last three games.
“I broke my toe two or three weeks ago, but I’m still playing the same," he told Polideportivo (via ESPN). «I broke my phalanx. I had to stop for three or four weeks for it to knit up, and it was impossible. It was before the game against Crystal Palace in training, but here I go, recovering. Once I warm up, I forget.”
Postecoglou also provided his thoughts on Bentancur's injury with his admission telling of his character to keep on playing. “Yeah, broken small toe. He has got nine others,» he said. «You know, I don’t think anyone could question Rodrigo’s courage with what he’s had to deal with recently.
»He didn’t want to stop playing, the medical advice was he could keep playing so he has still been training and playing. He hasn’t missed a session as far as I can see and I think it’s better now anyway so it’s all fine.” With Postecoglou certainly suggesting Bentancur has fully recovered, the man himself has offered some insight into the problems he has faced and overcome in recent weeks.
