According to Foot Mercato, Morocco are making an attempt to lure AS Monaco forward Eliesse Ben Seghir into their national team set-up.
Ben Seghir, who came through Les Monégasques’ prestigious La Diagonale academy, was one of the breakout stars of the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season. His performances earned him call-ups to the France U18 and then France U19 side. For the latter, he has three goals in just four appearances. A call-up to Thierry Henry’s France U21 side seemingly beckoned, however, injuries have halted his progress.
Having suffered a niggle in pre-season, he then missed the start of the season with a hip injury, only returning to earn a handful of minutes in late October, before suffering a shoulder injury that required surgery. As he eases his way back to form and fitness, he has only made one start for Monaco, against Le Havre AC in early February.
Whilst Ben Seghir remains on Les Bleuets’ radar, Morocco are showing an interest in integrating him into their senior side set-up, according to Foot Mercato. The Monaco forward could be included in Walid Regragui’s squad for the upcoming international break, having reportedly given his word to the national federation that he would respect a call-up, Foot Mercato understands.
