A mum put a message in her local WhatsApp group and was surprised by the response.
Denise Pendleton Snape, 45, was planning to have a big clear-out of her belongings two years ago. A car boot sale seemed like the best way to do this, but Denise couldn’t find one close to her St Michael’s home.
Even if she did go to one, she would have to get up early on a weekend and fill her car with stuff. Therefore, she decided to try a different solution.

Denise told the ECHO: “It all started when we’d come out of covid. I felt like community spirit was at a bit of a low. People were still scared to leave the house. We had a collection of stuff and wanted to do a car boot sale. I wondered, can we just sell stuff off our yard like they do in the USA?
“I put a message in our local WhatsApp group saying, do people fancy doing this? Quite a few people did. It escalated quite quickly from that.
“When everyone got behind it I thought, this could be really good. I started putting up more posters and pushing it. I was saying to people, this will only be as busy as we make it. If we all share it, tell people in work, put posters up in train stations etc.”
The day of the yard sale itself, on June 12 2022, exceeded expectations, with neighbours setting up stalls outside their homes. Denise said: “On the day, we said we'd set up by 11am. There were loads of people milling about by 10.30am.
“By mid-afternoon, the streets were busy, kids were running around. My daughter came back with a bin bag of teddys.
“I wouldn’t say people had come from all over Liverpool but people had driven in. One family drove in from Bootle.
