Ireland under-21 boss Jim Crawford has named a 24-strong squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifier against San Marino.
Crawford's men make the trip to San Marino next Friday for a fixture they will be expected to win comfortably, as they continue their push for a place at their first-ever under-21 Euros.
The under-21 manager has handed first call-ups to former League of Ireland starlets, Newcastle United’s Alex Murphy (Galway United) and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Mark O’Mahony (Cork City), while Drogheda United’s Andrew Wogan and Bradford City’s Calum Kavanagh - son of former Ireland midfielder Graham - are also included for their maiden involvements.
Under-21 skipper Joe Hodge and Andrew Moran return to the squad with both players set to join up with the senior team ahead of the friendly against Switzerland on Tuesday, March 26.
Having lost the services of Rene Gilmartin (goalkeeper coach) and Martin Doyle (lead analyst) to John O’Shea’s senior backroom team, Crawford has drafted in Chelsea assistant first-team goalkeeper coach James Russell, as well as Swindon Town first-team coach/lead analyst Liam McCartan.
