Moises Caicedo appears to be leaning towards a move to Chelsea this summer despite interest from Liverpool
Gary Neville poked fun at Jamie Carragher after it was revealed that Moises Caicedo preferred a transfer to Chelsea over Liverpool. The 21-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for a while now, but the Reds have recently joined the race for his signature.
With the Blues working hard to secure the Ecuadorian's services, Neville couldn't help but joke that the Brighton star doesn't seem keen on a move to Anfield. Speaking on Sky Sports on Friday Night Football, the former Manchester United defender said: "Hasn't Caicedo rejected Liverpool four times today?"
On The Overlap show, Neville insisted that Caicedo is exactly what Klopp needs in his midfield. As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, the 48-year-old said: "They [Liverpool's owners] should just be going and getting Caicedo now for him and say 'right, there you go, that's dealt with, it's sorted, it's £100m'.
"But they're not. They're trying to pinch someone off Southampton for 40 million quid [Lavia], who's a good player don't get me wrong, but Jurgen Klopp needs the real deal.
"They can't challenge Manchester City with a player who's got potential, they need to do it with a player who's real. I do think it's going to come back on the owners at some point."
"What did change is we are a club, we don't have endless resources. We didn't expect a couple of things to happen this summer; [Jordan Henderson, Fabinho] - stuff like this. We gave it a go and we will see. I've told you now what I know."
