Rasmus Hojlund's failure to score a Premier League goal after 14 appearances doesn't seem to have put Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag off the idea of signing an unproven striker.
United have now been linked with Bologna hotshot Joshua Zirkzee, who like ex-Atalanta prospect Hojlund has made his name in Serie A. Zirkzee, 22, spent five years with German champions Bayern Munich and scored an impressive four goals in 12 first-team games.
But the Dutch striker was shipped out to Italian side Bologna in the summer of 2022, where he looks to have found his feet. Having netted seven goals and registered two assists in 17 Serie A matches this season, German outlet Sport1 report that Zirkzee is high on United's shortlist, with the Red Devils looking to recruit a new striker in January.
Hojlund's struggles have come following his £72million move from Atalanta in August, although the 20-year-old Denmark international only managed to score nine goals in the Italian top flight last term. United have failed to hit the back of the net in their last four outings, with Ten Hag desperate for some attacking impetus.
In-form Zirkzee has the potential do just that but like in Hojlund's case, the 22-year-old will surely need more time to develop before he's ready to lead the line at Old Trafford. Stuttgart talisman Serhou Guirassy was recently tipped for a January move to the red side of Manchester, but the aforementioned report claims that United won't be pursuing a deal.
