Crystal Palace are in talks with Blackburn Rovers over a move for midfielder Adam Wharton.
The England U20 international has been followed by a number of Premier League clubs over the past two seasons with Newcastle United, Everton and Tottenham scouts regular watchers at Ewood Park.
Palace though have made an approach for the 19-year-old and discussions are underway.
Wharton, who made his England U20 debut against Italy in November, has made 45 appearances for Blackburn over the past two seasons and scored three goals.
'He can do things that nobody sees before,' said Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson. 'He can play under pressure, one touch, and has great vision.'
Wharton has progressed through Blackburn’s academy, which the midfielder joined aged six, and recently signed a new five-year deal.
Gregg Broughton, Blackburn’s director of football, believes Wharton is the best English prospect outside the top flight. His brother, Scott, seven years older at 26, is a regular in the heart of Rovers’ defence.
Palace have been scouring the market for midfielders after Cheick Doucoure picked up an Achilles injury that has ruined his season.
Wharton is viewed as investment for the future though they believe he can make an immediate impact on the squad also.
