Andy Carroll (35) has expressed a desire to remain at SC Amiens beyond the end of the season. The former England international’s contract runs until 2025, however, L’Équipe report that his personal situation could precipitate an earlier exit.
The former Liverpool and Newcastle United forward made the surprise switch from Reading to Ligue 2 side Amiens at the beginning of the season. The Englishman signed a two-year deal and has since scored three goals in 20 appearances for the French side.
Speaking to L’Équipe, Carroll has listed his preferences, ruling out a retirement at the end of the season. “My plan is to continue playing. Of course, I would like to have another year at Amiens. If that isn’t the case, I’ll look for other opportunities to play elsewhere. For now, I’m not thinking about retiring. I’m enjoying my football,” said Carroll.
The absence of Carroll’s family in Northern France could, however, see the Englishman leave Amiens halfway through his contract. L’Équipe report that his children only visit on the weekends when Amiens play at home. Whilst Carroll is clearly enjoying his football in Ligue 2, his future at the club is unclear.
