Not for the first time in recent weeks, Mauricio Pochettino has been booed by Chelsea fans. His side have also felt the full force of disappointment, long-term resentment, and anger from the supporters both home and away.
On Sunday against Leicester it truly turned personal. Frustration had already grown in the first half after Raheem Sterling's initial miss from the penalty spot — something exacerbated by his poor record from 12 yards as well as Cole Palmer's excellent one.
The 29-year-old then had a chance to atone for that error just minutes later when running through on goal. As his shot slid past the post, there were loud jeers from around Stamford Bridge.
As is natural with Sterling, someone who remains a high-volume player, he went on to assist Palmer shortly after again, doubling the lead and setting up what looked to be a comfortable second 45.At that stage it didn't feel like mutiny was on the cards but this Chelsea side can never be predicted.
Yet another disastrous start to the second period left Stamford Bridge venting towards the club's highest-paid player and the manager. Outside of boos at half-time and full-time, it was the biggest indication of serious unrest at SW6 yet, although the 2-2 draw to Brentford two weeks ago set the precedent for what has followed.
Sterling, within that, continues to divide opinion. On one hand, he is the club's third top scorer for the season and does still come up with some important contributions — only last month he opened the scoring at Manchester City. On the other, he plays more than most others and is starting to be seriously challenged by the increasingly dangerous Mykhailo Mudryk.
