Chelsea's Conor Gallagher has been told he should have stepped in to sort out the 'mess' between Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer against Leicester.
Chelsea almost lost to Leicester in the FA Cup on Sunday after Sterling took the ball from Palmer, who usually takes penalties, but then his shot was stopped by Jakub Stolarczyk. Mauricio Pochettino's side had been winning 2-0 before the Foxes pulled it back to 2-2.
Luckily, Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke scored late goals, and Chelsea won to go to the semi-final at Wembley. When Chelsea were ahead 1-0, Sterling got fouled by Leicester's Abdul Fatawu.
Palmer picked up the ball to take the penalty. He and Sterling talked about it for a bit before Palmer gave the ball to Sterling.
But the former Manchester City and Liverpool winger didn't kick the ball well, and Stolarczyk saved it. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who used to play for Chelsea, said that Gallagher, who was the captain that day, should have done something.
Hasselbaink thinks Palmer didn't really want to give the ball to Sterling and needed someone older to help him. Hasselbaink was talking on the BBC [via the Express] and said: «Gallagher, as a captain, you should go to Sterling and say, 'No, he's the penalty taker. He's taken five in a row, he's scored all five. He needs to take it, it's 1-0. Let's secure this mess first'.»
