Thomas Tuchel and Kai Havertz moment sends Chelsea Champions League reminder

Former Chelsea duo Kai Havertz and Thomas Tuchel were briefly reunited on Tuesday night. The pair were on opposing sides as Arsenal forward Havertz lined up against Tuchel’s Bayern Munich side, playing out a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The Blues will always be indebted to both men after helping Chelsea to win the 2021 Champions League. It was Havertz’s goal that proved to be decisive in a tense final against Manchester City as the club lifted the famous trophy for the second time in their history, while also allowing Tuchel to improve on his runner-up medal from the previous season.

Havertz was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee rising to a possible £71m, putting plenty of pressure on the then-21-year-old, who registered 25 goal contributions in 75 appearances under Tuchel. However, the German countrymen clearly built a strong rapport during their time at Chelsea as the pair shared a moment after Arsenal’s clash with Bayern.

Pictured embracing at full-time, Tuchel was recently asked about Havertz’s development in his first season with Arsenal. The Germany international has hit a rich vein of form, recording nine goal contributions in his last seven league games.

“He scored the best goal of my coaching career so far,” Tuchel said when speaking about Havertz. “He’s a very lovely guy, a nice character and a great team player with great qualities.

“I’m pleased for him that he gets the value after a rough start. We are aware of him and have some guys on the pitch that know him very well.”
