Viktor Gyokeres sends new message to Arsenal after striker breaks new transfer threshold

Arsenal’s aim to sign a striker in the summer continues to heat up with their list of targets shortening as the months tick down. However, Viktor Gyokeres continues to stand out amongst the rest and this previous weekend reached a new landmark to send another clear message to the Gunners that he is indeed the one not to miss.

In a 6-1 win over Boavista despite taking a one-goal deficit, the Swedish striker hit a hat-trick, highlighting all his best attributes on the way to the rout in Lisbon. The first goal came from an excellent bursting run through the centre of the box, anticipating the low driven cross across the keeper to which he slid in to claim the equaliser on the day.

His second was a show of the technical ability he possesses. Laid in down the left-hand side and into the box, he quickly checked back and despite his tall frame, was able to wrong-foot his defensive opponent, move the ball into space before rifling a low shot past the goalkeeper into the opposite corner.

His third was laid on a platter from the penalty spot. Arsenal have been excellent with their spot kicks this season with some great kickers in Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Jorginho.

However, Gyokeres could present as a potential fourth candidate to take the kicks with his smashing strike on the weekend giving the keeper no chance. Sporting would score more on the day but the significance of the Swede’s three goals means he now has 36 goals and 14 assists across all competitions taking him to 50 goal contributions for the campaign.

A stunning tally and one which blows the competition out of the water in regard to how they compare. Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen and the like are not getting close to Gyokeres.
