Newcastle are looking to strengthen their defence with moves for either Chelsea's Marc Cucurella or Arsenal's Kieran Tierney in the summer transfer window.
The Magpies have been on a charge since their takeover from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, though there have been questions over links to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that have been denied by the club and allowed for the takeover to be signed off by the Premier League. Heavy investment last season saw them transform from relegation candidates to surprise package under Eddie Howe.
The side's rigid defence made them tough to break down, while their frontline had the clinical edge needed to see them win plenty of games. While many wouldn't have tipped them for it, Newcastle reached the top four and secured themselves Champions League football.
Fast forward to the summer and the squad needed strengthening for those European nights to come, with Sandro Tonali the marquee signing of the window. The north east outfit are still looking to add to their ranks before the window closes though, and have turned towards rivals for the top four spots.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are interested in Chelsea's Marc Cucurella and Arsenal's Kieran Tierney as options to strengthen at left-back. The report claims that the initial options suggested are just one of the two would be signed and as a season-long loan, though it remains to be seen whether that would be accepted by either London club.
Cucurella could be a feasible option after the Spaniard struggle to set things alight in his first season with the Blues, following his £60million move from Brighton. With Ben Chilwell and Ian Maatsen as options on the left, it could make way for the defender to make a move.
