Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has dropped a huge double transfer hint with his team selection against Crystal Palace. The Gunners are looking to keep pace with Manchester City and win both of their opening two Premier League fixtures of the new campaign.
Gabriel Magalhaes and Kieran Tierney were two players that could have easily come into the defence to replace Timber in the starting XI against Palace on Monday. However, Arteta opted for Takehiro Tomiyasu instead - leaving Gabriel on the bench, while Tierney was left out of the squad entirely.
According to the Daily Mail, Gabriel has emerged as a target for Real Madrid as they search for a replacement after Eder Militao suffered an ACL injury and will be sidelined for most of the season. Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad are said to have held a meeting in London with the Arsenal star as they push to sign the 25-year-old - which may be the reason behind his exclusion from the starting XI.
Gabriel was a stalwart at the back for Arteta and Arsenal last term, but has been replaced by Ben White alongside William Saliba in defence - with Thomas Partey moving to right-back. Tierney, meanwhile, has been linked with moves to Celtic, Real Sociedad and Newcastle United this summer.
Gabriel is valued at €60million (£51.2m), while Tierney could fetch a fee in the region of €15million (£12.8m), according to the CIES Football Observatory.
