Newport County manager Graham Coughlan has warned his Man United-mad family they risk being locked out of the house if they dare support Erik ten Hag's men over his team in the FA Cup on Sunday.
The League Two club will be looking to spring a major surprise when they face United at Rodney Parade as they aim to reach the fifth round of English football's oldest cup competition.
But Coughlan and his family are lifelong United supporters, suggesting their could be split loyalties in the household on Sunday afternoon. Coughlan hopes he will have the backing of his family, though, and joked that there will be consequences if he finds out they have been cheering on the Red Devils.
'My daughter will be supporting me and the wife better be supporting me – or else she’s out the door,' Coughlan said.
'My dad and my mum will be over, and they’ll obviously be hoping I do well.
'I don’t think there’ll be any split loyalties – I’ll lock the door on them on Sunday night if they’re supporting anyone other than me.'
Coughlan revealed he has followed United for decades, watching them endure difficult moments before their glory years under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The club have struggled since the Scot departed just over a decade ago, but Coughlan has backed them to bounce back following the recent part-takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos.
However, he believes his team can give Ten Hag's side a stern test this weekend, especially with a hostile crowd firmly behind them.
'I followed United years ago when they couldn’t win an argument, let alone a game! It was tough being a United fan at that time because Liverpool were dominating and I used to get battered every day in school,' Coughlan explained.
