Manchester United set to sell two first-team defenders in summer
Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer transfer window.
The Red Devils, led by Erik Ten Hag, are set to undergo another period of transition following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recent purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the club.
While the British billionaire prepares to take charge of all the club’s sporting responsibilites, top of his agenda will be to reinforce the playing squad in time for next season.
Even though another striker to help ease the demands on Rasmus Hojlund is expected to dominate United’s summer plans, there are other positions which need attention.
And according to a recent report from Manchester Evening News, United’s defence is one area of the pitch that could soon be transformed.
Despite having multiple defenders among his options, Ten Hag is yet to really settle on his preferred back line, and that is set to force the club into the transfer market.
Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba have caught the eye amid what is shaping up to be an unforgettable season for the Germans.
However, pursing a deal for either, or both, Bayer Leverkusen players would see the exit door open for two of United’s current squad though.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof, who are both out of contract next year, are leading candidates to be sold in the summer.
Neither player has done enough to convince Ten Hag they’re worthy of a regular spot in defence with Wan-Bissaka currently ruled out with a hamstring injury, and Lindelof starting in less than half (10) of United’s Premier League games all season.
