Alexis Sánchez (34) has officially returned to Inter Milan, the Serie A side has announced. The Chile international will reunite with Simone Inzaghi’s side after terminating his Inter contract only a year ago to join Marseille on a one-season deal.
The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker had the opportunity to extend his stay at the Vélodrome with his contract including an option for a further year. However, Marseille and Sánchez failed to strike an agreement over the Chilean’s wages.
Les Phocéens quickly anticipated Sánchez’s exit and signed Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. With his previous contract expiring on June 30th, the two-time Copa America winner did not take part in Marseille’s pre-season. The 33-year-old striker was arguably Les Phocéens’ best player last season. His work ethic, his tireless efforts of the ball and his remarkable tally of goal contributions (18 goals and three assists in 44 games played) made him a fan favourite at the Vélodrome.
Sánchez underwent his medical with Inter this Friday. He has replaced Joaquin Correa within Simone Inzaghi’s side. The Argentine striker effectively went the other way and joined Marseille on loan.
