French-born Spain international Aymeric Laporte (29) has officially left Manchester City to join PIF-funded Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, both clubs have officially announced. The 2023 Nations League winner with Spain was expected to part ways with Pep Guardiola’s side amid dwindling playing time with the Cityzens. The treble-winning Premier League side have anticipated Laporte’s exit in signing Croatian international Joško Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in a €90m deal. Laporte was not part of the Manchester City squad that beat Newcastle United 1-0 last week.
Dear Cityzens, today I wanted to share a story with you…
It has lasted for five and a half unforgettable years. Plenty of memories that I will keep forever close to my heart. pic.twitter.com/hR2e5CWfVi
Laporte joined City from Athletic Bilbao in a €65m deal in 2018. He registered twelve goals and four assists in 180 games played with Guardiola’s side, winning five Premier League titles (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023) as well as the 2023 Champions League. L’Équipe understands that Al-Nassr and City reached a €27.5m agreement for the signing of Laporte. The Spain international is set to earn €25m per year in the next three seasons alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Seko Fofana and Sadio Mané in Riyadh.
