Former Cliftonville manager Paddy McLaughlin has been stood down from his role with Derry City
Former Cliftonville boss Paddy McLaughlin has been stood down from first team affairs at Derry City.
McLaughlin, who was appointed as the Candystripes’ assistant-manager in April, was informed of the decision after a meeting with boss Ruaidhrí Higgins before Christmas.
It’s understood the Brandywell club will continue to pay McLaughlin, as talks with his representatives about his future continue in the background.
The 44-year-old was not in attendance when Derry City players returned to pre-season training.
Before leaving to join City, McLaughlin had been in charge of Cliftonville since 2019 and helped the Reds win the League Cup and County Antrim Shield during his time at the helm.
They narrowly missed out on the Premiership title in 2022, finishing one point behind eventual champions Linfield.
McLaughlin’s decision to succeed Alan Reynolds in the Derry City role saw him return the club he supported as a boy but now he looks set to leave the Candystripes.
