Former Everton midfielder Peter Reid believes Jarrad Branthwaite has adapted "tremendously well in difficult circumstances" this season.
The 21-year-old, who joined Everton from hometown team Carlisle United during the 2020 January transfer window, has been a mainstay in Sean Dyche’s backline in recent weeks alongside James Tarkowski. Branthwaite has not looked back since being handed his first start of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in August.
Branthwaite has emerged as a bright spot in a difficult start to the season for the Blues. He had spells on loan at Blackburn Rovers and, last season, PSV Eindhoven, where he won the KNVB Cup. So impressive were his performances in the Netherlands that the Eredivisie club were keen to sign him on a permanent basis during the summer transfer window.
Manchester United are among the Premier League clubs to have been following his progress; however, Branthwaite committed his long-term future to Everton last week when he signed a new deal with the club. He penned a new four-year contract until the end of June 2027.

And Reid, speaking exclusively to the ECHO at an event to celebrate 100 years of The Pools, believes Branthwaite, who helped England under-21s win the European Championships in the summer, is only going to get better the more he places.
He said: “I think he has done great, the kid. I think he looks composed; he’s got a bit about him, and he has been very impressive.
“I think he has a great future ahead of him. I like him. I think he reads the game really well, and I think he smells danger, which I like from defenders.
