Chelsea transfer news: Newcastle have been linked with a switch for wonderkid Lewis Hall this summer, handing Mauricio Pochettino a clear dilemma.
The 18-year-old has been with the west London outfit since 2012, making his way from under-eight level all the way up to the first-team. Hall made his debut for the senior side in January 2022 as he featured against non-league outfit Chesterfield in the third round of the FA Cup.
His Premier League bow wouldn't come until the season after though as he was handed minutes against Newcastle in November 2022. Since then, the youngster has received more minutes and featured in first-team squads as his promise was on show for all to see.
The technical quality of Hall was helped by his versatility throughout the side, with his youth career adding the ability to play in midfield and at left-back. While that progression has been ideal, there will be a point in which regular minutes will be required to take that next step.
The youngster may need to be shown a clear path to reaching that first-team level, especially when other teams come looking for a bargain. That may be the case soon as reports have recently claimed that rivals Newcastle are eyeing a potential switch this summer to bolster their ranks.
The Blues have started to lean on younger talent under the new regime, but losing the faith of one of their promising talents by moving elsewhere could be a huge blow. It remains to be seen how Hall will progress or where he will fit in the team, but Pochettino and his staff must have a plan in place for that progression.
