Romain Molina reports that after the game against Chile during the most recent international break, three French players were visited by the police as they consumed a mix of alcohol and nitrous oxide, and caused noise complaints in the Sofitel hotel where they were staying.
Molina states that at around six in the morning, the police visited the hotel after a series of noise complaints, where it is alleged that these three French players had been disruptive, aggressive, and refused to turn down their music.
In his report, Molina points out the hypocrisy of the French Football Federation in allowing an environment where this can occur when the international break had been dominated by their response to players attempting to fast during the month of Ramadan.
The Federation had set a highly contentious ‘framework’ around players fasting that demanded that they reschedule their fast to not damage or disrupt their performances. However, in the same international window, their players were caught taking debilitating substances.
The sale of nitrous oxide as a “ psychoactive ” has been banned since the 1st of June 2021 in France, after fears over the legal high’s ability to cause, a loss of consciousness, asphyxiation, and even severe neurological and cardiac disorders.
