Charlie Adam has been named as the new first-team head coach at Fleetwood Town.
The 38-year-old currently works at Burnley as their loan manager but now looks set for the first managerial job of his career.
Fleetwood announced on Saturday that they had sacked Lee Johnson after they went winless in nine games in all competitions.
Johnson was appointed in September but the Cod Army are sitting 23rd in League One with just four wins from 23 games.
They are also five points away from safety in the third tier of English football, with a new name now taking the reins.
Speaking upon his arrival, Adam said: “I’m delighted to join a club I know well and one which we feel we can make a real difference with.
“I’m inheriting what I think is a strong squad which is more than capable of getting the results needed to climb the table.
“Fleetwood is a hard-working, honest, and passionate town and the football club must reflect that – the players have to be proud to pull the shirt on and represent what the club and the town stands for.
“It’s now important we see togetherness from the players, staff and crucially the supporters to help turn results around — we can’t wait to get started.”
Adam announced his retirement from football in September 2022 following nearly two decades in the game.
The former midfielder started his career at Rangers before moving to Blackpool in 2009, sealing a switch to Liverpool two years later.
Much of his career was spent at Stoke City, for whom he made 179 appearances and scored 22 goals across seven seasons.
Adam then spent one season at Reading before completing a move to boyhood club Dundee for the final two years of his career.
