It’s a blow PSG could have done without – Portugal international left-back Nuno Mendes (21) has sustained a serious hamstring injury. The Ligue 1 champions’ medical press release today indicates that the young defender is nursing a right hamstring tendon rupture. PSG add that last season’s Ligue 1 Breakout Player of the Year is set for several weeks on the sidelines for his recovery process. He will therefore miss PSG’s pre-season Japan tour, and probably the start of the Ligue 1 campaign on August 12th as well.
With Mendes out of the picture for the time being, PSG have only two senior left-backs available for now with Juan Bernat – who is expected to leave the French capital this summer – and new signing Lucas Hernandez. However, the former Bayern Munich defender has not played a competitive game since his season-ending ACL tear during France’s World Cup opener against Australia.
The remainder of PSG medical statement adds that fullback Nordi Mukiele has resumed running and ball-carrying exercices. Brazilian playmaker Neymar has also resumed individual training and is set to partially take part in collective training this week. Meanwhile, France international centre-back Presnel Kimpembe – who tore his Achilles last season – is continuing his recovery process. The 2018 World Cup winner with France is expected to resume running next month.
