Sergio Rico (30) returned to the Parc des Princes for the first time since his horse-riding accident in May, attending Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
The PSG goalkeeper suffered a life-threatening head injury during a horse-riding accident in Sevilla on 28th May. Rico was left in a coma in intensive care for several weeks but was released from hospital in August.
Despite the severity of the accident, Rico harbours dreams of returning to football before the end of the current season. “My ultimate goal is to be ready with the team before the end of the season,” the Spaniard told PSG’s media channels back in September.
Whilst a return currently looks a long way off, Rico made his long-awaited return to the Parc des Princes on Tuesday. He saluted fans prior to the fixture against Newcastle. It is also the first time that Rico has returned to Paris having previously been prevented from travelling. Rico will continue his recovery as he looks to make an incredible comeback.
